Thank you
from the American Red Cross
The Social Concerns Committee and the American Red Cross thank all who
helped in some way with the blood drive last week. We had 33 presenting donors, those who
tried to donate, of which 28 were productive donors. Next blood drive is tentatively scheduled
for Monday, October 18th.
Mark your calendars!
In Home Care
Help Needed
All Saints member
Sue Siedlik has been placed into hospice care and is living with her daughter
and son-in-law. They would like to
hire someone to provide a few hours a day of help with her as the son-in-law
is also disabled and her daughter works during the day. They live in the Waterford area. If you are interested in this position,
please contact Dan Lemond at 248-867-2063 (cell) or 248-481-9263 (home), or
DAN_LEMOND@comcast.net by email.
Please state that you are from Sue's church when you contact him.
Property Committee needs your help on August
7th
It is time to
straighten out the Storage Room again as well as do a few more things around
the church. Saturday, August 7, beginning at 9:00 am, the Property Committee
is asking for about a dozen people to help in various tasks and repairs. As
mentioned, the Storage Room needs to be reorganized, and some long-term
storage items need to be moved from the church over to the Parish House
office. A little more weeding needs to
be done in the parking lot islands, the mulch at the end of the path needs to
be moved to bare spots in the landscaping with the rest going on the path,
the thermostat in the narthex needs to be swapped out with a battery operated
one that we have, and we may have to tinker with a sprinkler pipe that
started leaking after we made a repair to the sprinkler head. Please contact
Rick Mann with questions and whether you can attend or not. Phone:
248-685-7527 or 248-496-3490 Email:

Special Adult
Sunday School Forum
Join us in the narthex between services on Sunday, August 15th for a video
and discussion. This is the video that
we tried to show on a recent Sunday morning when our intentions were
frustrated by technical issues. The
speaker discusses how a pastor helps to equip the church to minister and
lead. Coffee and donuts will be provided,
but feel free to bring a favorite treat to share as well. See you in the
narthex.
Did You Know?
Did you know that
All Saints has a food pantry? Did you know that the food pantry is available
to anyone in our community who is in need of food items whether they're a
member of our church or not? Did you know that we need your help to keep the
food pantry stocked?
We are looking for
donations of non-perishable foods such as canned veggies, pasta, pre-packaged
instant mashed potatoes and anything else you can think of. Donations are greatly appreciated and can
be dropped off in front of the food pantry.
From Your
Council President
As I meet with
various groups and individuals I hear much misunderstanding about several
issues, and I hope to dispel a few of these bits of misinformation here.
Our finances are
at a critical state, there is absolutely no doubt about that. On that topic,
I hear some of you saying this means that we will lose our building any
minute and that you have chosen to withhold part of your usual offerings
because of perceived insecurity about our future. I continue to repeat that nothing will make us insolvent faster than
this.
We have continued
to pay our bills as promptly as possible, and have prioritized them thus:
Mortgage, Payroll, Utilities, Miscellaneous.
We are no longer supporting SLPL in any fashion other than in
fellowship and love.
We have a
Financial Oversight (FOC) Team that is working on several projects: Capital
campaign with the MCL team, drawing up possible compensation packages for a
potential pastor, looking for a dedicated person to head up an audit team,
giving you financial updates each week via The Herald, working on a policy
for how our special funds will be administrated in the future and making sure
that none of our gifts are being used extravagantly or wasted.
I have no doubt
that All Saints Lutheran Church will remain in existence, but if you care
that we continue worshipping in our present building, the best things you can
do are to give, both to the general fund and the building fund, and to remain
positive. Loving and serving others in the name of Jesus needs to remain our
focus.
Please know that
I am willing to talk with any of you at anytime and answer any questions you
have, as are the other members of the team. Your council has made goals of
being trustworthy and transparent, and of keeping none of the unpleasant
facts from you. Please check with one of them before passing on a rumor that
may not be true and that may do damage to this part of the body of Christ.
Blessings
Kathleen M

Social Concerns
LACASA (Livingston
Area Council Against Spouse Abuse) is a nonprofit agency that provides
comprehensive services for violence and sexual assault victims and their
families and friends. Through the
months of June, July and August the Social Concerns Committee is asking for
donations of cleaning supplies such as all purpose cleaner, laundry
detergent, sponges, and soap, etc.
Social Concerns will then donate these items to LACASA. A basket will be located in the Narthex by
the food pantry. Any donations will be
greatly appreciated.
Prayer Requests & Updates
The list of prayer
requests is available on a one-page handout, available at the information
desk. Prayer requests can be forwarded to: coppout3@aol.com or office@myallsaints.com;
by calling Karen Walker at 517.546.4948; or fill out a prayer request form
available in the narthex. Unless otherwise noted, prayer requests will remain
on the list for one month. Of course, if you have a long-term need, your
request will remain on the list.
The dedicated team
of pray-ers has established an “emergency need” prayer phone chain. Since
email is often read only once or twice daily, (or less often for some), if
you have an urgent or emergency need for prayer, please call Karen Walker at
517.546.4948. Karen will forward the request to a team of 4 or 5 individuals
(as well as have the email prayer request communicated) and we will begin
sharing God’s healing powers immediately.
