Fourth Sunday after the Epiphany

sunday worship at all saints: 8:30 am, 11:00 am, 6:00 PM

Holy Communion at All Saints is open to all Christians who put their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.  Gluten-free wafers are available.  If you need a gluten free product at communion, please indicate this to a communion minister.  Grape juice is available in the center rings of each tray.  Children and adults who are not communing are invited to come forward for a blessing.  Hands folded and head bowed will indicate to the pastor a blessing is desired.  Hands open and uplifted will indicate when the sacrament is desired.  If it would be difficult for you to participate in communion at the altar, please tell an usher and they will communicate this to the pastor so you can receive communion and remain seated.

Welcome Visitors!

We are glad you are here!  Please sign the visitor’s book on the stand by the front door as you leave today!  We hope that you will join us again for worship!  If you have questions about ASLC, please call us at 248.887.8060.

Weekly Attendance:

January 22nd  attendance: 158

Nursery Available

A staffed nursery is available during the 8:30 worship service on the 1st & 3rd Sundays of the month and during the 11:00 worship service on the 2nd & 4th Sundays of the month.  You are encourage to use this ministry, spread the word, and even lend a hand.  Contact Kate Zywicki with questions or interest.

Please Note

After receiving numerous complaints about the state of the equipment and counseling rooms, along with a few comments that the storage area is starting to return to its previous state, I will be choosing dates to tackle those areas. Please remove or relocate what is dear to your hearts in those three shared spaces before Jan 31 or I can no longer vouch for its safety.  Thank you.  Kathleen W.

Christian Education

Help is needed in our Sunday School program! We are in need of some kind and caring older teens and/or adults to help out with our younger children in the morning program. We need more hands! Curriculum is chosen, projects are decided and most supplies already available!

We need leaders, several so we can rotate, and a prep team. Many hands make for light work! Contact Pam Stapula for more information at pjstapula@gmail.com or 248-887-8102.

Preparing Meals for Members in Need

The Congregational Life Committee is looking to form a new subgroup of women/men that would be willing to serve on a committee to prepare meals for our congregants who may need assistance with an evening meal as they recover from surgery, injury, depilating illness, etc.  I need at least seven people to volunteer to cover all the days in the week.  This committee would supply meals on a short term basis, i.e. a few days to a few weeks.  We are not looking to supply meals for invalids on a long term basis.  If you would be willing to serve on this committee, please contact Sandra Kopp at coppout3@aol.com.  Please provide your name, address, telephone, and email address with your response.  Thank you for your consideration.

Spaghetti Dinner anyone?

This is a National Gathering year! What is National Gathering? Good question. It is an event where approximately 35,000 high school Lutherans come together for five days of learning, fellowship and service projects. Oh, and a whole lotta fun too. All Saints has not sent a group to National Gathering in over 10 years. How exciting for our youth to be able to share together this experience that will help build their faith for a lifetime. The travelers will need to raise approximately $800-$1000 each to finance the travel, registration fees and room and board for the week.

All Saints has supported the fundraising of the youth very well in the last several years. As a way to gather, have fun and support the youth you are invited to dinner on Fat Tuesday, February 21. The last night before our Lenten journey begins for 2012. Stay tuned for more details and MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW!

In Need of Retreat?

If you are, please consider the 1 day retreat that is being hosted by Women of the ELCA (WELCA) in Ida, Michigan.  This is billed as a Spiritual Retreat entitled "Women of the Well:  A Day for YOU!!!"  It is scheduled for Saturday, March 10th from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran.  Topics of interest include speaker/author Deborah Lovett, centering/prayer practices, strategic shopping, card making, healthy living, and organization.  The cost is $35 and includes breakfast, lunch, and activities.  Registration deadline is February 26th.  For questions, more information, or registration forms, please see Kate Zywicki (katezywicki@cs.com or 248.318.9098).

Introducing: The “Strength of ONE” Sunday

What is it? The monthly “Strength of ONE” is a fun and easy way to help collect specific food items most needed for the Food Pantry. We will collect, on the first Sunday of each month, the specified items and add them to our own Food Pantry, distribute to Community Sharing, Gleaners, as well as other food banks. Each month the specified item will be posted in The Herald, as well as on fliers on the Food Pantry doors. The number of families needing assistance has increased dramatically over the past few years. Imagine the number of families we could feed if each person attending worship at All Saints brought “ONE” item.

The items to bring for the first Sunday in February are pasta or pasta sauces.  Of course you are welcome to donate any non-perishable food item to the food pantry at any time during the month.

If you have any questions please contact Karen or Eric Moyski (248)887-3158 or email JKEMOYSKI@comcast.net.

Mark your calendars!

On Sunday, March 4 at 11:00 AM the southern gospel singing group, The Royal Heirs, will present a mini-concert for us during worship, and then will join us for an all-church potluck.  This group started in Flint, and have a stellar reputation through the entire region. DO NOT miss this worship experience.

Mutual Ministry Team

Your Mutual Ministry Team is the connection between the church staff, church leaders and the congregation. If you have a praise or concern about the church, its ministries, or its staff, please contact one of the committee members - Charlie Larson, Lou Prine, Jeff Sarkady, Judy Stepanian, Josh Radzwion or Becky Manross-or fill out the form and place it in the Mutual Ministry box, both located on the credenza in the narthex. Remember, all concerns are held in strict confidence, but praises are shared as they help to advance Christian ministry, described as “service to another in the name of Christ.”

Financial Status

There will be a "temple talk" after each service today to provide the congregation with a financial update.  Herald reports will re-start at the beginning of February. Please address your questions and concerns to Mike Hoffman at hoffmike@msn.com or 248-760-0896.

Prayer Requests & Updates

The list of prayer requests is available on the information desk. Prayer requests can be forwarded to: coppout3@aol.com or office@myallsaints.com; by calling Karen Walker at 517.546.4948; or fill out a prayer request form available in the narthex. Unless otherwise noted, prayer requests will remain on the list for one month. Of course, if you have a long-term need, your request will remain on the list.
