What's Happening at South Lyon Power & Light

Greetings!  I must apologize for your missing two articles from me.  First (and this will be the only time you have heard this one) – the cyberdog ate one of them – it’s probably out in the ether somewhere! As for the other one – oops!

Social Concerns

LACASA (Livingston Area Council Against Spouse Abuse) is a nonprofit agency that provides comprehensive services for violence and sexual assault victims and their families and friends.  Through the months of June, July and August the Social Concerns Committee is asking for donations of cleaning supplies such as all purpose cleaner, laundry detergent, sponges, and soap, etc.  Social Concerns will then donate these items to LACASA.  A basket will be located in the narthex by the food pantry.  Any donations will be greatly appreciated.

Take Time to Enjoy our Wildlife

Wild Corner! Have you noticed the busy parent tree swallows and bluebirds feeding their families in our dedicated sacred space behind the church? Walk the meditation trails and enjoy the wildlife and native plants in our beautiful wild area. The native plants support the insect species that provide protein for the birds to feed their young. We are so blessed to have this natural area as part of our ministry to Creation!

Recycling Update

This month we received a check for $16.24 from Abitibi Paper Recycling for our April paper recycling. We saved 10.11 cubic yards of landfill space this month alone.  Keep those papers coming in to the green bins at the back of the parking lot!

Meijer Rewards

This month we received a check in the amount of $101.98 from the Meijer Community Rewards program.  Get more information on this program at meijerrewards@meijer.com.  ASLC organization number is 463916.

Opportunity to learn about Alzheimer’s

Al came to the door and I forgot his name!
We know lots of jokes about Alzheimer’s, which is a form of Dementia, but if you have this disease or live with someone that does, the jokes don’t seem quite as funny.  On June 17th, at 7:00 pm Stephen Ministry will host Mr. Stephen Campbell from the Chelsea Chapter who will help us to understand a little more about this wide spread disease.  It is estimated that 5.4 Million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s. It is the 7th leading cause of death. 172 Billion dollars in cost and 10.9 million unpaid care givers are just a few of the growing statics.  To learn more about Alzheimer’s and how you can recognize the symptoms come and join us for this informative discussion.
