Do You Know the Good News? Seven (7) youth and Three (3) adults attended the senior high Gathering in Lansing in late December. Four (4) youth and Two (2) adults attended the junior high Youth Quake in Lansing as well in early January. The kids had a blast and thank everyone for their support! From the Interim Senior Pastor There are a lot of special things coming up in February at All Saints, new and different! Worship on Sunday, February 14th will be a “Celebration of Love” which will include the story of St. Valentine, and an opportunity for married couples to re-commit to each other. The season of Lent will include “In The Beginning was the Word” Reader’s Theatre on Sundays, and “Whose Cross Is it, Anyway?” series of Lenten sketches on Wednesday mid-week worship services. Lots of readers and actors are needed for each, and sign-up sheets are displayed in the Narthex. Come, be a part of something new! Are You Being Called, But Not Sure Where to Go? Here is your chance to find out where you can fit in. The Social Concerns and Health Ministries have a gamut of diverse projects we would like to work on this year. We hope to look into new projects like The Angel Food Ministry, Support Our Troops, and Christmas Closet, just to name a few. Of course we hope to continue with those projects that we have been doing for years like Heifer International, Food Baskets, Coat Drive, Christmas Giving Tree and the Blood Drive. Worship at South Lyon Power & Light
South Lyon Power & Light News
During the Past Three Weeks at Power & Light: Welcomed visitors, reviewed information related to signage and other publicity mechanisms, began planning events, held a meeting where we decided to investigate and start Sunday School, youth ministry and confirmation. We are looking into how to get placed in the “Find a Congregation” search feature of the ELCA website as well as developing a local website and email newsletters. We will be looking at ways to grow youth connections with other churches. College Care Packages It's that time again! We thank you for your support and ask you for donations for our care packages being mailed on Feb. 27th. WOW Award Recipients Bill Johnston is putting together a history of WOW Award recipients. If you have been a WOW Award recipient, please send an email note to Bill at bjohnst3@comcast.net with the following information: Who gave you the award? Why did you get it? (Don't be modest now. Why did the person that gave it to you, give it to you!). And lastly, who did you give it to (and why). When done, the list will be made available to all. Youth & Family Director Over the past year and a half, I have been blessed to serve among you. I have shared your joys and pain and worked with you to promote the faith development of our youth and children at All Saints. Although I have enjoyed it immensely, the time has come for me to step back and allow you as the people of God to decide the next steps for the youth and Christian Education ministry. Property Committee News Have you recently been wondering how can I give more to help the church when I can bearly afford or even can't afford to pay my bills? Well, there is a way. The Property Committee is seeking anyone interested in volunteering their time. It can be a small amount of time in a year, a little bit of time each month or some time each week. Currently, I am lining up a list of things that need to be done around the church and parish house. Some are one time things, others seasonal or monthly and yet others weekly or every other week. Please watch for more information soon and/or see Rick Mann if you are in anyway interested or even the littlest bit curious. (phone 248-496-3490 or 248-685-7527) Scarves, Hats, and Gloves oh my!! On Monday, February 1st at 12:00pm Creative Saints in Fellowship will once again meet at church to work on our next project. Fleece scarf’s, hats and gloves for those that need them most. We invite all those interested in cutting, sewing, and socializing to join us. We also would like to invite those that enjoy knitting to meet with us. Don’t forget to bring your brown bag lunch. Contact Susan Happel 248-887-5489 or Louise Holtz 248-889-3040 for more information. See you there! Think Spring and Buy a Brick! I’m not much of a winter person so spring can’t come soon enough. What fun to play in the warm dirt and watch the sleepy heads of flowers poke through the ground? I’m excited to see how the Memorial Garden will look with the sunshine streaming on our new plantings and our bricks inviting us to walk the path. I hope you can get excited too. Phase one is finished. Tidy Teams on Saturday! Tidy Teams - currently this is a misnomer as we only have one team actively cleaning. We would like to have at least two so that the work is not burdonsome for anyone. Currently we have 4 regulars and a few irregulars (those that fill in from time to time). This group meets at the church on Tuesday mornings. Little Saints Christian Preschool News Find out what's new in the Purple, Green, and Red Rooms! Thank You Jan and Bill Martin would like to express their thanks to the many people of All Saints that have sent cards and that have given us comfort during this difficult time of the death of Jan’s Mother, Hazel Thornton. We appreciate all the kindness, and your thoughts and prayers. Thank you to my All Saints Church Family Recycling Update In November All Saints received a check for $17.16, and saved 10.70 cubic yards of landfill space from the paper collected in our green Abitibi bins in the parking lot. Remember, your old newspapers, magazines, junk mail, school papers, and shredded paper (in bags, please) can be added to the bins and earn money for our church. Reciepts Wanted If you shop at VG’s or Colasanti’s Market please save your receipts so All Saints can receive cash back. We only need the bottom portion of VG’s receipts that show the community share points. Colasanti receipts must be from the current year only. Please leave them in the clear box on the windowsill in the hallway. Thank you. VG's Rewards Thanks to all who turn in their shopping receipts from VG’s. This month we received a check for $187.66! SCRIP Program What is SCRIP? It is fundraising while you shop for the things that you would buy anyway. All you have to do is purchase a gift card through ASLC and a portion of the price is returned to the church. There are hundreds of retailers to choose from! And they’re not only good for yourself, they make great Christmas gifts! And the best part is that by purchasing them you can help out the church without fundraising. See Suzanne Compton today between services and after the 11am service to purchase SCRIP’s. Any questions, she can also be reached at 248-887-4267 January Council Minutes Minutes from the January Council Meeting: January 14, 2010 Council Member Contact List Do you have a question, comment or concern? Do you know who to turn to? Council! Yes, that’s right! Council was elected by the congregation to lead the congregation and make decisions regarding the church. In order to effectively do that, council needs feedback and they would love to hear from you.
