What's Happening at South Lyon Power & Light Greetings! I must apologize for your missing two articles from me. First (and this will be the only time you have heard this one) – the cyberdog ate one of them – it’s probably out in the ether somewhere! As for the other one – oops! Anyway, it’s Pentecost – a time of unexpected power. It is a third of the Church calendar. It is all about an unbelievable force that blasts through our lives from out of nowhere. It is not about what was, but a new reality. “The Big Guy” (Pastor Bart, to you) had an acquaintance, who is now with the saints, named Derek Cross. Derek was a diver with the Royal Navy who worked on the raising of one of Henry VIII’s ships, the Mary Rose, which had lay slumbering in the mud of the Solent for over 400 years, and over half of it was raised intact. Many cannons were brought up from the wreck– one big beast in particular. Derek watched as the cannon was cleaned up. A worker casually knocked the hot ash out of his pipe by the touch hole. All of a sudden, the cannon roared to life, knocking out not just the wall of the building they were in, but of another building nearby, toppling it. It is the same with this season. We look at the actions of the Church and its Spirit as “once upon a time”, but guess what – it’s “now in time”. Guess what – the same Spirit has not retired to Aruba to sip frozen Daiquiris down by the beach. It is here, roiling, roaring, flaming, wooing, saying to the Church, “unfasten your seatbelt, put on your crash helmet – the game is on”! POW! Come join us at South Lyon. We have adult Sunday School, 7 youth to be confirmed in November, and a food drive going on – the YES you CAN drive (get it?) Oh well, back to dogma – Be bold in Christ, |
