Council News - Social Concerns

Christmas In Action

The Social Concerns committee has decided to have All Saints participate in the Christmas In Action, volunteer workday on Saturday, April 26, 2008. It is open to all church members who are the age of 12 or older by April 26. Christmas In Action is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing FREE HOME REPAIRS for qualified low-income and handicapped senior homeowners, at no cost to them. Volunteers provide home repairs to make the homes safe and functional for the owner. As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to put your compassion into action, to share your abilities, no matter what your level of expertise, and to give the precious gift of time to those who need it. Our youth groups, The Rock and The Boulders, will also be participating in this workday.

The youth groups will receive application packets at their weekly meetings and will include all the forms needed to register for the workday. Parents need to have the "Parental Consent Form" notarized. There will also be packets in the narthex for All Saints members who also wish to volunteer for the workday. All forms must be turned in no later than April 2nd to the church.

Please note that on the bottom of the forms, I put a spot for an email address and a T-shirt size. As details become more available after my April 8th meeting, I will email information out to you, for those who do have email addresses. All T-shirts are adult size only, so please supply the size you think best fits you. I will receive the T-shirts at the April 8th meeting and will hand them out the morning of the workday. Workday starts at 8 a.m., so we can tentatively plan on meeting at All Saints at 7 a.m. so we can carpool to the work site. Food and drinks will be provided for breakfast, lunch and dinner for all volunteers. In the morning, they will have coffee and donuts. Water and drinks will arrive on site about 10 a.m., so non-coffee drinkers may want to bring something for the early morning. Food is provided by local restaurants, so it could be any type of food. I'm told dinner most likely will consist of pizza. It is suggested you bring a lawn chair with your name on it, so you have a place to sit for meals. Please dress accordingly for the weather.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Lynn Swain at 248-889-2161. I will be heading up the group of volunteers from All Saints Lutheran Church. I hope you can find time to volunteer for the day, for this very worthwhile cause. Yours in Christ, Lynn Swain
