Annual Fundraiser Supports “Flying” Relief in Guatemala

Ann Arbor, MI. February 29, 2008. The 6th Annual Fundraiser for Great Commission Air will be held at Concordia College in Ann Arbor on April 26, 2008. Proceeds from the event will support the work of pilots Robert and Jennifer Rice, who have been operating life saving emergency medical flights and spreading the Gospel in rural Guatemala since 2000. Robert is an instrument and commercial rated pilot and Certified Flight Instructor and Jennifer is a private pilot. The Rices serve as many as eighty people a day. Based in Mayalan, Guatemala, they use small aircraft to fly in to locations that may not have roads or medical treatment facilities. Recent patients have included a child who was kicked in the head by a horse, a mother with breech birth complications, a teenager suffering from acute appendicitis and an elderly stroke victim. In addition to their work with medical relief, the Rices transport missionaries, doctors, teachers, and dentists. Their desire to provide aviation support to missionaries and humanitarian relief to the people in underdeveloped areas led them to found Great Commission Air. Great Commission Air also hosts eyeglass clinics, supports safe drinking water initiatives and well drilling projects. Jennifer and Robert Rice will return briefly to Ann Arbor for the Fundraiser.
