From the Laptop of Milicent

Greetings!  Be thankful you are not living in the New York City area, like the big guy’s mom – we have had a lot of warm times here in South Lyon.  Everyone has had some really good times. We all decided that we really wanted to celebrate Christmas Eve together, but no one could make it, so we came up with “Christmas Eve Eve”; that’s right, December 23.  OK, all you liturgy mavens, it might not be totally calendar correct; however, hear this: we had over 30 people including visitors, and everyone lingered for over an hour enjoying the fellowship.  On Dec. 26, Big Guy did a service featuring the history of 6 favorite Christmas carols, which also had good attendance.

So far in January, we have enjoyed a “Mystery Meal” – you had to order your meal using only some very cryptic clues – which produced some interesting combinations of food, drink and utensils (yes, those had to be “ordered” as well).  Each course was served separately, and everything from the table was cleared away before the next course was served.  Some folks could be seen eating chicken casserole with a carrot, and ice cream cake with a celery stick – during the same course, since they had missed the clues for the silverware!  This fun evening with about 35 in attendance was masterminded by Master Chef Rich and Sous Chef Sue, who were ably assisted by the ever alert and uber-cool youth group.  We await what might come next!

This month we collected mac and cheese box dinners for needy families  - next month we will focus on toilet paper, which cannot be purchased with food stamps.  It looks like Sunday School is returning, and we are having some new folks attending as well.
