Do YOU Know the Good News?

We have newly installed Managing a Christian Lifestyle (MCL) (think Stewardship) co chairs, whose gifts will greatly enrich all of us as they help us become better stewards of all that we have been given.

7 youth are starting in Confirmation at South Lyon Power and Light (All Saints’ South) with expected Confirmation to happen in November 2010.

Lost Ring

A ring was left behind at the parish house by a Rock youth while washing dishes at the sink in the mudroom (?) area outside the bathroom, but not in the main house.  If anybody has found it or knows what has happened to it please place it or a note in The Rock mailbox (24) in the church office.  It has no monetary value, just sentimental.

From the Interim Senior Pastor

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:

On behalf of our staff and my family, I hope you all have a wonderful Easter, that celebrating Christ’s resurrection brings renewal and hope to all.

Several reports of crocus blooming, birds arriving from down South and so forth have made me hope and anticipate Spring’s arrival.  Knowing that this is Michigan, and anything can happen, makes me wary.  Experiencing both hope and wariness together is probably a good balance to have right now.

Creative Saints in Fellowship

Our next meeting will be on Monday, April 5th.  We'll be having a brown bag lunch in the church kitchen at 12 noon.  (BYOBB)  Our last project was working with fleece and we were able to finish 20 hats, 20 scarves and 25 pairs of mittens!   The items will be donated to Grace House in Pontiac.  For the next project we will again be working on flannel blankets to be donated to the NICU at Huron Valley Hospital.  Feel free to bring a project of your own and join us for fun and fellowship!    Creative Saints meet on the first Monday of each month.  Questions, call:  Louise Holtz 248-889-3040 or Sue Happel 248-887-5489

From your "Office Staff-er"

Well, I went and did it - accepted a position with Five Sparrows, LLC who I've been working with since December as my second job 6-8 hours a week. Now they are ready for me to add to my time and responsibilities with them. A great opportunity for me and my family; exciting, learning new cool things, meeting new people, with opportunity for advancement and increases in my salary in the future.

Worship at South Lyon Power & Light

Sundays: 8:15am Worship Team Rehersal
  9:10am Worship

From the Council President

Lent is a season of waiting, of repentance, of turning back to God, of anticipation of the new life that Easter will bring. Easter is so important in the Christian life that we have to spend time preparing for it to really appreciate it, which is one of the reasons why we, as of Ash Wednesday, give up coffee, wine, chocolate or other things we love, and perhaps add a new level of devotion, i.e. extra prayer or Bible reading, a higher level of giving to others or some other act of generosity and sharing.

Men in Mission

Our Men in Mission group meets the second Saturday of every month at 8:00 AM. All men are invited: church members, friends and neighbors. We start with breakfast and move on to Christian discussion and sharing. The sharing we do is inspirational and educational so please consider attending our next meeting.

Teen Church - What's the Buzz?

Teen Church Update
Saturday, April 2nd will be the date for the parish house basement clean up for Teen Church.  We need as many hands as possible.  Plan to meet at 9:30, and bring cleaning supplies, if you have them.  Any questions, contact Gina Tretyak or Jeff Moyski.  Pizza and salad lunch will be provided.  We hope to be done by early afternoon.

Stewardship is not a four letter word!

After about a month and a half of arguing with the Holy Spirit we surrendered (yeah we don’t give up easily) and agreed to co-chair the Managing a Christian Lifestyle (MCL) Committee.  As many of you know we have been members of All Saints since the beginning.  We have come to cherish our “Church Home” and “Church Family” and can’t imagine it not being here in the future.  We have been through worse times in the past and it is painful to see us nearing those discouraging spots again.  We have recently been reminded that “We are the Church”, not the building or the staff.

Kroger Community Rewards

Our latest rewards check from Kroger was $177.01, and covered the period from November 1st, 2009 through January 31st, 2010. If you shop at Kroger and have not signed up for Community Rewards, there is information in the file under the counter in the Narthex.

Thank You

Dear All Saints Family - I wanted to express my gratitude for the wonderful care package I received last week. It came during the middle of a very busy week and was a very welcome present. In my three years at college I must say I have never received anything so generous. Thank you again and God bless! – Jackie Simonson

Pastor Mary & Friends - I enjoyed all the cards & thoughts & prayers during my recovery. It meant so much to me. I’m doing pretty good.  Just remember all the love and friendship in our church, and thank you Pastor for coming to see me in the hospital. It meant a lot to Dan and me.  – Judy Giegler

Transition Team passes the torch to the Call Committee!

The last two weeks of April will be the time for your Transition Team’s last event:  Cottage meetings hosted by families all over our wide-spread Congregation’s geographical area, and attended by both Transition Team and newly-appointed Call Committee members.  Soon you’ll see a list going up in the narthex, with opportunities for you to select a family near you on a date that you can make, to attend a pot-luck dinner at your selected family’s home, and have a chance to participate in providing your take on the Values and Principles that make our congregation what it is.  This information, along with the “norms” and the history of our Congregation, will go into the Call Committee’s profile of our congregation that will be used to select our new pastor.

Community Sharing Garage Sale

It’s that time of year again, when we ask for your assistance with the Community Sharing Spring Garage Sale. The garage sales are an extremely important source of funding for our outreach programs. The services we can provide to our clients depend upon the successful outcome of these garage sales. We encourage everyone in your faith community to participate by donating items to be sold, and of course, shopping at the garage sale. The dates of the sale are Thursday April 15th through Saturday, April 17th.

Kids Against Hunger

Sign-up Soon!  If you haven't already heard about this program, you will soon. (View the Flyer) Little Saints and All Saints are working together to raise enough funds to purchase food ingredients that will allow us to create 10,000 meals for children locally and around the country, and world, who need a good healthy meal.  On May 8, 2010, we will need 120 volunteers to work together for about one hour to assemble and create 10,000 meals for children.  The great thing about this program is that 1/3 of the meals will remain here and we will decide where they are most needed, 1/3 will go to national reserves for disaster relief, and 1/3 will go overseas to a country we designate.  To do this we need two phases of help.

Charitable Giving: Do it with purpose and planning

Financial experts estimate that, in the next 10 years, up to $10 trillion will be transferred through the estates of individuals. Their loved ones, as well as the government, are likely beneficiaries — but not exclusively. In addition, more and more people are bequeathing a portion — and sometimes a very substantial portion — of their assets to charitable organizations and other causes they hold dear.
